Job Summary Provides analytical support for characterization of API’s, in-process blend samples and finished drug products in support of the Pharmaceutical Development Center (PDC). Works closely with PDC team members in the design of experiments. Writes comprehensive technical reports describing the results of experiments. Applies creative ability and knowledge of analytical methods and technologies to solve analytical problems. Works on projects that are technically complex. Accountable for the accurate analysis of samples submitted. Job Responsibilities *Plans and executes complex analytical projects. In addition to using analytical test methods developed and validated by A&QS, new analytical methods will need to be developed and qualified for some of the testing. The testing includes in-process, drug product and drug substance samples. Applies creative ability and knowledge of analytical methods and technologies to solve analytical problems. Organizes, evaluates and draws conclusions from experimental data; makes mature technical judgments. Ability to present data in a logical manner. *Performs analyses to support characterization of drug substances and drug products. Characterization of the samples may have a direct impact on product robustness, both from a manufacturing and stability perspective. Originates reports in the appropriate written or oral form so that new ideas or approaches are brought to the attention of appropriate personnel. *Establishes and maintains outside scientific contacts. May prepare technical papers for internal presentation. *Follows and enforces current policies, procedures and standards as required by cGMPs. Maintains awareness of US and international regulations affecting the pharmaceutical industry. Provides direction and support in implementing policies and practices to assure that analytical methods are developed and maintained in compliance with company and FDA regulatory requirements. Helps in the preparation of departmental SOP’s. *Communicates with other departments and sections. Participates in discussions and meetings for the purpose of exchanging ideas in relevant areas of interest; can serve as department representative at program or project meetings. Communicates new ideas and approaches to appropriate personnel. *Maintains familiarity with literature and recent advances in particular fields of interest; acquires knowledge and understanding in related fields. Basic Qualifications *The incumbent should have a BS + 10 years of experience, an MS + 8 years of experience or a Ph.D. with experience in the pharmaceutical industry as an analytical chemist. *Training on analytical techniques, practical knowledge of operation of different instruments, such as HPLC, GC, IR and UV/Vis. Experience with dissolution testing. Working knowledge of characterization techniques, such as DSC/TGA, particle size technologies (Malvern, Sympatec, etc.) and spectroscopic techniques, such as NIR and Raman extremely beneficial. *Must also have experience in writing technical reports. *The incumbent needs to have excellent interpersonal skills, be highly self-motivated, and well organized. *Good verbal and written communication skills are required. *Relocation is not available for this position.
