Job SummaryProvides daily animal care and husbandry of laboratory animals as described in BioResources PPP’s and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulatory guidelines (e.g., USDA, AAALAC). Performs animal technical procedures and provides animal study support with minimal to no supervision.Job ResponsibilitiesProvides animal husbandry and care for a variety of laboratory animal species. Provides fresh feed and water, performs cage changes and animal room sanitation procedures. Recognizes normal environmental room parameters (e.g., temperature, humidity, light levels, air flow, etc.) and reports abnormal conditions to the appropriate individual. Recognizes normal clinical appearance and behavior of animals and reports any concerns to the veterinary staff or designate. Performs technical procedures including but not limited to animal identification, (e.g., ear notch/tagging), animal dosing by various routes (e.g., SC, IV, PO), and animal euthanasia. Conducts studies requiring adherence to FDA’s “Good Laboratory Practices” or “Good Manufacturing Practices” requirements if applicable.Collects data, maintains instrumentation, performs duties and maintains documentation to meet federal regulations or to support other required needs (e.g., sentinel program, water quality testing).Assists in training of BioResources and investigative staff in animal technical procedures and preparation of training materials.Performs other duties based upon departmental needs as determined by the incumbent’s supervisor.Participate in holiday and weekend duty rotation of animal care husbandry.Basic QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required. College courses in Animal Science or Husbandry are highly desirable.Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level is preferred. Certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) level is required.At least 3 or more years of experience in a research animal facility is desirable.Incumbent should have knowledge of research animals, regulations governing their use and laboratory animal science in general.Ability to handle and work with a variety of laboratory animals.Ability to lift/move 50 pounds required.Relocation is not available for this position.
