Terrific Career Growth Opportunity – Senior Buyer  A leading packaging distribution company, located in Tennessee, is looking for someone to join their procurement team to help continue the expansion of their operation. You will be in a critical business development position interacting closely with the sales team and customers in order to provide optimum solutions to packaging needs. A primary responsibility for the Senior Buyer is to provide customers with high quality products and services in a cost effective and timely manner.  To affectively accomplish these goals you will develop a close professional relationship with company sales people, build a productive team relationship with co-workers and develop a trusting relationship with vendors and customers. Position Details: Reporting to the Department Manager, you will assist sales people and customers to identify their product needs and specifications, and prepare quotes for materials and services, assisting the sales person in the pricing of products.  You will review special orders for customers and maintain stock merchandise inventory levels.  As Senior Buyer you will confer with approved vendors to remain current about product information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.  You will be responsible to select suppliers based on experience with previous orders or by identifying suppliers with the best mix of price, quality, and service. As Senior Buyer you will prepare purchase orders, review purchase orders for accuracy, enter orders into the order processing system and transmit orders to vendors.  You will be responsible for maintaining procurement records and inventories.  You will discuss defective or unacceptable goods with inspection or quality control people, users, vendors, and others to determine the source of the trouble and take corrective action.  To assure timely delivery to customers, you will expedite delivery of goods.  Also, as Senior Buyer you will be prepared to direct and coordinate the activities of department personnel engaged in purchasing, and, manage the department’s operation in the absence of the Department Manager. Skills/Qualifications:  The needed knowledge and skills are normally acquired through studies leading to a BA/BS degree and eight or more years of packaging procurement experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Procurement experience in the packaging distribution industry is preferred. Thorough knowledge of packaging products, the industry, the market place, customer needs and supplier capabilities. Expertise with cushioning, protective packaging, flexible packaging, stretch film, shrink film, poly bag, papers, void fill, air conveyors, safety equipment and Jan-San products is necessary. Accounting and mathematical abilities along with proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, inventory and Internet software, and, order processing systems.
