Software Development Manager - Temecula, CA
Our Software Development Managers are responsible for and manages the activities of a 15+ member software development team tasked with architecture, design and implementation of software programs for Company products. Directly oversees planning and coordinating the creation, integration, operation and application of software systems on both general purpose hardware platforms and custom/proprietary hardware platforms. Reviews System Specification & Design documents from Systems Engineers and participates with Project Managers - Development in the estimation, planning and scheduling of projects that meet those specifications and designs. Implements standardized product development processes across the software development team. Ensures the software development team is staffed with personnel holding the skill sets necessary to provide high levels of quality and productivity. Primary duties include, but are not limited to: · Oversees and directs the creation of software related design documents and customer-oriented technical documents. · Develops and oversees software development processes, design and code review processes and checklists. · Develops and maintains company ISO 9000 standards pertaining to software development activities. · Participates in software architecture reviews, design reviews and code reviews. · Works with Product Marketing Managers to understand market/customer requirements. · Ensures product compliance with product specifications, industry standards, company standards, and regulations. · Develops PlantCML software development standards that are compliant with industry best practices. · Assists with major trade shows and visits customers. · Works with Project Managers – Development, to establish and utilize effective project plans and schedules within the available resources of the development team. · Establishes and maintains a department budget according to company guidelines. · Supervises directly, or though technical lead personnel, all activities within Software Development. · Develops and maintains an effective department through proper staff selection, training, mentoring and assignment of personnel. Fosters employee communication and involvement. · Monitors and evaluates employee performance utilizing, at a minimum, structured performance review tools and metrics that are standard across the company. · Ensures that all PlantCML personnel policies and procedures are met in the department. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications: · BSCS or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. · 5+ years management experience in software development, preferably an application development environment (including ability to recruit and integrate new personnel; train and instruct; evaluate new technologies; assess personnel performance and conduct performance reviews). · 5+ years experience in software development using C#, C++, and/or Visual Basic (or similar software development technologies), using integrated development environments. · Proficient with the use of software tools such as compilers, linkers, installers, debuggers, revision tracking systems, requirements analysis/capture tools and defect-tracking systems. · Proficient with current and recent Microsoft operating system environments such as Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server. · Knowledge of design and implementation of network-based software architectures based on mechanisms such as ODBC, OLAP, DCOM, etc. · Ability to research data and provide documentation. · Strong verbal and written communication skills, comfortable communicating and interacting at all levels within the company. Candidates with any or all of the following skills and qualifications will be given first consideration: · MS in Computer Science or related field. · Proficient with .NET 1.0, 1.1, 2.0. · Proficient with PC-LAN associated protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI). · Experience with Client-Server architectures. · Experience with MS SQL Server. · Experience in telephony and telecommunications a strong plus. · Knowledge of telephony standards and regulations a strong plus. · Experience with 911 systems, networks, and peripheral equipment a strong plus.
