About Us
The New York Times Shared Services Center is the Business Solutions Provider for one of the worlds premier media companies. Located in downtown Norfolk, Virginia, the SSC is a centralized facility for streamlining many of the Companys core processes in Benefits, Finance, Strategic Sourcing & Contracts, and Information Technology.
Responsibilities
Purpose To work in a team environment supporting various Accounting processes including reconciliations and month-end close. Responsibilities - Perform the more complex account reconciliations that the Finance department is responsible for (i.e. corporate accounts, cash, and inter-company). - Review reconciliations prepared by Accountant II. - Perform analytical review on selected General Ledger accounts and research unexpected or unusual results. - Apply proper accounting treatment to new financial transactions and record applicable journal entries to the General Ledger. - Respond to questions from business units regarding general accounting and/or PeopleSoft system matters. - Investigate and resolve General Ledger accounting inconsistencies. - Ensure department procedures are properly documented. Key Result Areas Provide an exceptional level of customer service and support to the NYTCO financial community. Customer/Business Partners - Business unit controllers, accounting staff and other personnel - Managers and staff in the Corporate Controller?s department - Managers and staff in the Corporate Treasurer?s department - SSC managers and staff - Internal and External Auditors - Bank personnel
Qualifications
Technical Knowledge/Skills Required: Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office software required. Preferred: Experience with PeopleSoft desirable. Education or Certifications Required: Bachelor?s Degree required. Preferred: MBA/CPA/CMA preferred. Work Experience Required: Five to Eight years accounting experience. Additional Requirements - Demonstrate an analytical, methodical and resourceful approach to problem solving. - Good verbal and written communication skills, necessary to articulate ideas and prepare analyses. - Good interpersonal skills, necessary to build and maintain relationships and interact well across all levels. - Ability to prioritize and ensure completion of critical tasks. - Ability to work effectively alone as well as in a team environment with minimal supervision. - Ability to adjust to changing priorities, circumstances, and personal interaction styles. - Experience with PeopleSoft financial application highly desirable. - Ability to convert complex data into meaningful information so actionable plans can be developed. - Ability to influence and communicate across multiple business units and various levels. - Strong financial analysis skills. - Ability to assess, resolve, and inform supervisor of work related issues. - Strong understanding of general accounting concepts and procedures.
