Brief Posting Description:
Responsible for generating, writing, editing and producing news releases, brochures, and media materials (including text for the TGen web site, the TGen Foundation web site, internal corporate documents, articles (magazine and newspaper) and all other materials that serve as a communications/media/public relations vehicle, both internally and externally). Also serves in a media relations/public relations capacity, both locally and nationally, and contributes to the overall TGen strategic communications mission.
Detailed Description Write, edit, and produce materials, both internal and external (e.g., quarterly newsletter, monthly update to Board of Directors, press releases, text for web site, proposals, brochures, publicity material, and articles about TGen that are published in magazines/newsletters).Assists with media/public relations (write press release, work with media to set up interviews with scientists to get the message out, coordinate photo shoots). Involved with communications aspect.Maintain interaction with senior leadership (e.g., draft quotes for President and Scientific Director / Chief Operating Officer), scientists, and other organizations, etc. (communicate with scientists as per new things going on).Involved in project management (follow-up, trafficking, etc.).
Job Requirements:
Experience in journalism/PR as well as a strong scientific/medical background. College degree in a scientific field and journalism/publishing or PR. Strong writing and project management skills plus an understanding of public relations and community issues. Graduate degree in genetics/medicine or journalism. Computer skills - Word, PowerPoint, a design program such as InDesign or Photoshop. Must stay on top of new industry developments, scientific developments, and internal developments. Must understand cutting-edge technologies used by the Institute and be able to explain scientific discoveries to a lay audience as well as a scientific audience. Must be able to adapt and create new materials that are tailored to particular events. In addition to being an expert in grammar and the English language, the position also requires a knowledge of both the scientific and media/PR industries.
