Systems Administrator - Windows and Linux

You will be responsible for administration of all IT systems in a dynamic, 40-person software company with multiple offices.  If you're looking for a lot of day-to-day variety, a high level of responsibility, job autonomy and a casual but serious working environment where competence is appreciated, Coventor is the place for you.

 



Responsibilities

Procure and deploy new systems—servers, desktops and notebooks

Install application software

Support end users by diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues

Maintain internet service —interface with ISPs for all offices as needed, maintain domain name registration, etc.

Security – administer firewalls, VPN, anti-virus, spam filtering,…

Administer company-wide Windows domain (Active Directory)

Administer Linux-based mail (sendmail) and ftp servers

Administer Windows domain controllers and file/print servers

Administer Windows and Linux file servers – deploy, grant access permission, assure adequate free space by periodically removing unused data, etc.

Backup – maintain backup policy (assure that all business-critical data are backed up, change tapes, administer Backup Exec, etc.)

Upgrade server OS and applications software as needed

Administer various MIS applications (corporate wiki, Siebel CRM, IBM ClearQuest issue tracking, in-house time tracking,…)

Administer license server – install licenses for various in-house and 3rd-party software

 

Must-Have Qualifications

B.S in Information Technology or related discipline

3 years relevant work experience

Demonstrable proficiency in both Windows and Linux system administration

Substantial experience in administering 3 or more of the following: Windows domains, NIS domains, sendmail, Windows file servers, Sonic Wall VPN software, or Backup Exec backup software

Service-oriented attitude

Ability to self motivate and independently learn new skills

 

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

Experience with end-user support

Microsoft certification in Windows Server 2003

Red Hat certification

Work experience in a small to medium software or high-tech company

 

Salary and job title will be commensurate with experience.  This is a full-time position in our Cambridge, MA location.
