Thank you for your interest!A senior-level professional, the Systems Development Senior Specialist is competent to work on complex projects and applies an in-depth knowledge of engineering/automation concepts, practices and procedures. The incumbent regularly works under deadlines and is capable of handling extreme workloads. The Systems Development Senior Specialist acts independently, operating with only general direction; errors at this level may cause significant disruption and/or major cost. Incumbents may provide guidance to and assist in training less experienced staff. Incumbents are responsible for the installation, development, implementation, and customization of hardware and software system elements. REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Software design and development, systems integration and engineering for commercial transportation solutions operating in a high-availability, 24x7 environment. Ability to multitask across multiple projects for complex integrated systems which span different phases of the software/product lifecycles including documentation, design, development, testing, installation, implementation, fine tuning and/or maintenance phases. Performs engineering evaluations and/or testing of materials (H/W and/or S/W components, products and systems). Preparation of detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Provide design recommendations for equipment to be fabricated or installed based on device specifications, timing analysis, performance and functional requirements. Application of configuration management procedures for changes to the software, operating system files and application configuration data. Performance of associated process studies, research investigations and requirements analyses of all aspects of communications and telecommunications system, etc., by applying statistical/analytical and modeling or engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in specialized areas. Participation in the development and preparation of documentation for, but not limited to, procedural, program and user documentation. Works with users to ensure successful system implementation; may assist in user training. May provide guidance and assists in training of less experienced staff. May research or write portions of technical proposals. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge and compiles information into recommendations and analyses. Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience. Minimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible related technical experience, including 3 years developing large, technically complex systems and 2 years with major responsibility for developing, revising and controlling technical documentation of a complex system. - Some travel and on-call support required. C/C++, Linux, real-time and/or embedded development, Perl, Java, UML, Object Oriented methodologies, device interface development (serial/parallel ports, PCI, DMA, network interfaces, sockets), Rational Rose Product Suite (RealTime/IBM Technical Developer, ClearCase, ClearQuest) Familiarity with any of the following is a plus: transaction and violations processing, real-time object tracking and classification technologies, automated UML driven code generation, Linux kernel/device driver development, image processing.
