TECHNICAL WRITER

TECHNICAL WRITER  Job Description

The Technical Writer is responsible for producing high-quality documentation and procedures and works on all phases of information development from information gathering, research, and interviewing, to writing and editing. He/she must also produce graphics and illustrations using Visio, such as server diagrams and flow charts and will also contribute to template designs. The Technical Writer is responsible for managing competing deadlines and prioritize projects appropriately as well as drive document projects across the project team to keep up with schedules and document quality. The TW will seek, recommend, and initiate improvements in process flow and support Engineers’ documentation.  Responsibilities

· Create and maintain complex documentation sets involving technical material under limited supervision

· Identify, plan for, and revise technical writing project requirements, and research complex source material for these projects

· Help to identify and implement standards and process improvements

· Perform simultaneous task and project coordination for multiple projects

· Serve as lead writer for all projects

· Attend and contribute to product/project team meetings

· Work with team members to improve document quality and usability

· Researches and analyzes end user needs and provides the appropriate level of detail in the documentation

· Outlines, writes, updates, and verifies document content

· Participates in team meetings and contributes to the establishment of improved documentation processes

· Acquires an overall knowledge of the product(s) and hardware systems he/she is responsible for documenting, and an understanding of how they relate to the entire product line

· Develop and maintain standard proposal materials

· Create compelling graphics, charts, and other exhibits

 Qualifications

· The individual should demonstrate strong writing and interpersonal skills with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (5 years minimum) with significant on-the-job experience and documented work history producing and managing proposals, technical documents, and/or equivalent large multi-section documents (1-400 pages) using MS Windows and MS Office applications.

· Detail-oriented, organized, with excellent time management.

· Strong personal computing skills emphasizing Microsoft Office suite: format and edit documents.

· Knowledge of the Unix, Linux, or Windows operating systems, and/or knowledge of IT hardware, SAN, or networking configuration.

· Capacity to work both independently and in a team.

· Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, to meet deadlines, and to work under pressure.

· Excellent writing/speaking skills. Ability to identify the significantly complex information needs of target audiences, develop appropriate documentation plans, and manage the execution of those plans concurrently.

· Limited supervision, including: little or no supervision in the pursuit of established goals and the resolution of complex issues as they arise.

· Formal training and demonstrable expert skills using MS Windows and Microsoft Office applications: Windows Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

· Experience with tables, lists, and objects, Tables of Contents, etc.

· Strong English language composition and editing skills.
