They form the foundation of our SUPERVALU Advantage - the key to our continuing success.Title: Tax Accountant IPURPOSE:Responsible for advanced technical tax and accounting research, analysis, regulatory reporting and compliance support of the property tax, sales/use tax and licensing functions of all Supervalu entities. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote Corporate Tax Group as an essential part of proper business planning by providing consistent, timely, high quality client services in a professional manner. Provide technical input to assist in development of projects and tax systems. Adhere to all tax reporting due dates, response to notices and information request within stated time limits. Identify, research, and evaluate tax planning opportunities. Effectively communicate tax and business issues/recommendations to management. Responsible for budgeting and monthly planning for all corporate and store level expenses. Assist in the preparation and compliance with all state escheat tax laws. Prepare accounting entries for the Company’s fiscal and period closings. Complete special related accounting and tax projects as assigned by Management. Assist in the training of Associates and other Staff. Provide technical leadership to staff. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. SALES & USE TAXES: Responsible for the review, preparation, filing and paying of corporate state and local sales and use taxes to ensure Company compliance with tax laws and regulations. Ensure accuracy of data and backup worksheets Assist in collecting data for the negotiation and settlement of tax audits with various taxing authorities. Assist company personnel with sales and use tax determination of transactions when requested. Create and/or analyze monthly sales and use tax provisions and accounts Assist in coordination of sales and use tax audits. Update sales and use tax materials, utilized by company personnel. PROPERTY TAXES: Report, analyze, interpret and prepare property tax renderings and reports. Provide technical expertise in the implementation and use of tax systems and procedures for property and sales/use taxes. Research current tax laws and prepare real and personal property tax returns. Analyze property tax assessments for potential adjustments or appeals. Ensure accuracy of assessments to minimize company liability Create and/or analyze monthly property tax provisions and accounts Assist in coordination of property tax audits. Coordinate property tax payments. Track property tax assessments for accuracy and to minimize company liability.LICENSING Assist in the licensing function for all retail, distribution and office units.PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with Tax Accountant II on supervising a team of Associates. SCOPE DATA (management positions): NAJOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Previous accounting/tax experience (0-1 year) required preferably with Parent Company Possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Some travel may be required (less than 5%). Possess ability to work with and through others to achieve desired results. Ability to multi-task and to manage time effectively in a busy office environment. General knowledge of computer capabilities.
