Project Manager - Business Technology
The Associated Press seeks a Project Manager for its Business Technology Division in New York City.
Reporting to the Director of Business Services, the project manager will work as a part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary Business Technology team that provides project management support for various types of applications – such as financial accounting, Asset Management system, expense management, and Intranet. Among other responsibilities, the project manager will develop and manage project plans, business requirements, project proposals, scope, time, cost, risk and client expectations. The project manager should understand approaches to managing complex, enterprise projects and have the flexibility to lead product managers, analysts, developers, designers, analysts, external consultants, vendors and other project team members to deliver integrated solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and manage cross-departmental project teams Work collaboratively with business owners/stakeholders Write business requirements and project proposals Work with other team members to translate business requirements into scope Develop and manage project plans and delivery dates for projects Perform risk assessment analysis Ensure that the program scope and measurable success criteria have been defined Manage and execute budgets for projects Liaison with technical/development staff to manage deliverables for the program Manage on-going issue tracking and resolution Provide on-going client communications through status meeting and other methods as appropriate Ensure consistent project management processes are followed Perform postmortem to wrap up projects and take away lessons learned
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to both manage a project team and be a strong individual contributor directly involved in the hands-on work necessary to achieve the deliverables Proven project management skills Good understanding of Financial Accounting, Fixed Asset Management, and ERP and other off the shelf systems implementation Ability to differentiate between tactical and strategic issues and influence internal and external customers Detail and process oriented Strong decision making skills, self-motivated and goal oriented Strong interpersonal and communication skills Creative problem solving and negotiation skills Understanding of AP product and market strategy and ability to keep pace with on going changes College degree required PMP (Project Management Professional) designation a plus
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum 6-8+ years project management experience with ERP package implementation A good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles A good working knowledge of Financial Accounting Systems Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project/Server, or other project management software, Visio and Access
