Senior Collector

The Associated Press seeks a Senior Collector for its New York City headquarters.

The senior collector will be responsible for a high volume debtor portfolio collecting past due receivables. Duties include resolving billing disputes and non-payment issues through research.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform account reconciliations to ensure that outstanding balances are correct. Research for resolution unapplied cash for proper application. Maintain collections database. Document all follow up activity (verbal and written). Work with Sales Representatives and Billing Department to resolve invoice disputes. Send appropriate collection letters according to departmental guidelines. Prepare accounts for third party placement, legal or bankruptcy. Generate monthly aging reports for the collections group, dispute, write off and other financial reports as needed. Process monthly journal entries.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to multitask and communicate effectively via phone and email with both internal and external customers to facilitate the timely resolution of unpaid receivables. College degree preferred or equivalent experience in Account Receivables/Collections. Knowledge of data entry and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) required. Strong business writing and oral communications skills necessary. Must possess research and follow-up skills. Must be detail oriented and able to meet deadlines. Professional attitude and approach towards collections is required. General Ledger and database software experience required. Spanish speaking a plus.
