Assistant Designer

• Under close supervision design and prepare jacket, cover, binding and interior mechanicals for the printer

• Become familiar with the process of color proofs, match prints, irises, blues etc. and various stages of the printing process through bound books.

• Keep manager informed of projects

• Handle projects/tasks assigned in a timely way by being a trouble-shooter, problem solver and deadline maker.

• Archive all projects in DAM on a timely basis

• Keep production status on server updated

• Provide administrative support to supervisor

• Handle reprint material

• Prepare comps and dummy books

• Return art and dead matter

• Organize portfolio reviews

• Maintain artist files

 

Proficiency in QuarkXPress on a Macintosh platform, Illustrator and Adobe PhotoShop; understanding of and use of the English language; be detailed-oriented, well-organized and able to set priorities under pressure.

 

Some experience in design and book publishing; knowledge of typography, graphic design, book manufacturing, printing and production.

Must possess college degree or equivalent work experience.
