Rastar, a direct marketing agency, is seeking an Assistant Editor to join our rapidly expanding team. With a specialty in the automotive, financial, consumer goods and education markets, Rastar’s direct marketing division works to create database-driven solutions for clients such as Acura, Honda, HP, Wal-Mart, Wells Fargo, University of Phoenix and others. If dialogue-driven marketing campaigns focused on migrating customers to more profitable segments sounds intriguing, we want you to be a part of our team! This position will be responsible for the following:

Summary Description: 

The Assistant Editor reports to the Managing Editor and is responsible for developing in-depth knowledge of a specific client’s products and services. Must apply that knowledge through a combination of proofing, editing, and technical writing skills to ensure that print and electronic communications are brand-appropriate and professional. Must be able to consult with and direct others effectively and be adaptable to rapid, continuous change in content, process, and organization.

Essential Job Functions: Develops in-depth knowledge of client products and services by researching websites, promotional material, marketing collateral, technical manuals, and industry publications. May also conduct hands-on research and travel to meet with clients.

 Creates and maintains appropriate client-specific style guides; feature, benefit, and specification lists; and other appropriate documentation to support pre-media, creative, and account or client groups.

 

· Responsible for editing copy and proofs for the organization, ensuring the use of proper punctuation, grammar and spelling; adhering to format requirements; and ensuring consistent use of abbreviations and terminology.  Sets and enforces house and client style.

· Uses computerized composition and text-management systems, edits and prepares final copy for publication that meet overall specifications and standards as well as other job requirements.

· Writes and makes changes to copy decks. Coordinates word processing, illustrating and composition tasks.

· Management/ownership of the proofing process.

· Ensures that documents meet quality standards, adhere to form and format requirements, comply with customer specifications, and are delivered on schedule.

· Ensures that problems that could jeopardize quality, disrupt workflow, or impact cost and schedule objectives are reported to the appropriate personnel for corrective action.

· Communicates with clients as needed.

· Checks press proofs to verify quality as necessary. 

Minimally Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:A consistent eye for grammar, punctuation and spelling. Demonstrated customer service skills.In depth working knowledge of database (variable data) marketing.Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision. Ability to be detail oriented.  Demonstrated organization skills. Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.  Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and QuarkXPress. In depth working knowledge in Microsoft Office, Internet and e mail applications, and standard reference sources.  The ability to present ideas effectively.

 

Minimally Required Education and Experience:

· A Bachelor’s degree in a discipline requiring strong written skills. (English, Communications, etc.), or a combination of education and experience that yields the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. 

· Three to five years of applicable experience.
