Focal Press, an Imprint of Elsevier, has an immediate opening for an ASSOCIATE ACQUISITIONS EDITOR to work with the 3D, Animation, Game book publishing team. This professional position will provide a career track toward Acquisitions Editor for the successful candidate. Qualifications The job entails: * 50% project management of 20 titles (textbook, software book, professional manuals). Responsibility for titles publishing on time and on budget. Manage titles from start to finish, including checking manuscript, coordinating reviews, developing covers and art package, writing marketing copy, and serving as authors? primary contact. You will also communicate with other functional groups, e.g., production, marketing, and sales. * 50% acquisitions. Sign and develop 10-15 titles per year, mostly revisions. The perfect candidate will be results-oriented, a quick learner, and a go-to person who is comfortable managing authors. You must be a highly organized self starter, motivated, and dedicated to getting the job done. You must possess excellent editing, writing, organization, and communication (verbal & written) skills with strong attention to detail. Those qualified will have 2-3 years previous book editorial experience, strong interest in acquisitions and exposure to acquisitions, interest in topic, and a Bachelor's degree preferably in journalism, English, or related area. Previous publishing experience highly desired. Microsoft Computer literacy required. If you enjoy multi-tasking in a fast-paced, team-oriented publishing environment, we'd like to talk to you.
