Associate Editor

Industry-leading quilting publication magazine  is looking for an Associate Editor to support magazine and web processes, provide administrative support to the editorial team and freelancers, and to provide customer service. The ideal candidate is organized, self-directed, and has a strong interest in the quilting industry.

 

Supporting magazine and web processes: Track and care for quilts that are procured for publication in the magazine. Write, edit, and proof content as assigned for the magazine, special issues, and web site. Coordinate monthly web site updates, working with editors to gather content and with web team to ensure that each upload is complete, accurate, and executed on time. Manage article/idea submissions file to provide ideas to EIC.

 

Administrative Support: Facilitate communication and project coordination between home office and offsite editorial office. Create product and branding collateral for retail, advertising, and consumer marketing internal groups. Track and process editorial contracts and expense reports.

 

Customer Service: Monitor customer correspondence (mail, email, and telephone). Communicate with customers to address issues when applicable, and forward other issues to appropriate people (Editor, Web Team, Customer Service Department, etc.). Interact with other departments as necessary to facilitate communication and solve customer problems.

 

Requirements: Solid knowledge of the publishing industry, and an ability to perform within magazine publishing cycle. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks within defined deadlines. Excellent copyediting skills. Knowledge of basic computer programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) as well as solid editing, writing, and proofing skills. Degree in English, Communications, or related field required. One to two years previous magazine and editorial assistant experience is preferred
