Copy Editor, Health Line Group

 

 

American Health Line, the Greater Cincinnati Health Watch, the Kaiser Daily Reports, Global Health Reporting, California Healthline, The Weekly and iHealthBeat are online news publications covering a broad range of health policy issues and are read by more than 50,000 people in government, advocacy and business groups.  We are seeking a copy editor with demonstrated writing, editing and grammar skills and an interest in health policy to join this fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 

 

Office hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

 

Copy editor candidates should have the following qualifications:

 

n Demonstrated mastery of AP style and standard proofreading marks.

n Superior writing skills.

n Ability to learn publications' style.

n Excellent grammar and spelling skills.

n Working knowledge of policy, health care and technology issues.

n Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. 

n Superior time management skills.

n Strong customer service ethic.

n One to two years copyediting experience; online copyediting and fact-checking experience preferred.

 

Job duties include:

 

n Proofreading and editing reports.

n Fact-checking stories as needed.

n Writing daily, depending on department needs.

n Working closely with editors to ensure accurate and consistent grammar, spelling, punctuation, style and tone.

n Updating and maintaining style guides, training materials and Intranet.

n Assisting in news gathering process.

n Helping maintain event calendars.

n Serving as a backup for the multimedia editor.
