The Teaching Company (TTC) a 17-year-old publisher of university-level lecture CDs and DVDs for adult enrichment, has an opening for a Copyeditor in its Publications Department. The Copyeditor works with Academic Content Supervisors (ACS) and other company personnel in support of the course development process by copyediting all written materials that are produced in conjunction with the DVD/CD courses. This position is periodically called upon to rewrite materials or suggest changes to copy manuscripts. This is a full-time, salaried position (40 hours per week).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibility of this position is to copyedit scopes, outlines, transcript books, and other written materials that support our courses. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Copyedit course lecture titles, scopes, guidebooks, transcript books, and other materials for  grammar, spelling, coherence, style and content consistency among all materials

 

· Verify and correct course guidebook front and back matter (bibliography, etc.)

 

· Ensure that written material matches taped lectures

 

· Meet with Academic Content Supervisors to ensure consistency and accuracy, and update course content

 

· Assist in the writing and editing of special publication projects

 

·Other duties that may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

· Master’s degree or commensurate experience

· Minimum of 4-5 years copyediting experience, knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style

· Experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook

· Experience with Adobe InDesign, Quark or Pagemaker a plus

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Pleasant office manner
