Manages assigned titles from pre-contract stage through release through publication, tracking and incorporating cutting-edge research and/or technology if appropriate. Serves as a primary contact for authors throughout publication process. Must frequently revise priorities to effectively manage numerous projects. Duties Include: Consult with acquisitions, sales/marketing, customers; attend national meetings; conduct market research on selected projects Analyze competing books and conduct "postmortems" on previous editions and draft strategy plans for revisions Evaluate competitor's ancillaries such as CD's, web development, etc. Work with authors to plan content, organization and chapter templates Generate ideas for features and formats that aid usability Coordinating and analyzing reviews of first drafts of manuscript Develop guidelines for contributors regarding chapter content, format, size, number of illustrations, and reference style Send welcome packet to contributors that include these guidelines Review all stages of manuscript to ensure that guidelines have been followed Monitor budget Work with authors to correct any deviations from outline Develop timetable for receipt of manuscript from contributors and review of manuscript by editors.Qualifications Candidate will be a self starter with strong organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills. A flexible and creative approach to problem solving. Resourceful, decisive with attention to detail. Able to work independently with little supervision. Able to foresee and avert problems. Able to manage authors and interact with them professionally. Able to manage several complex projects simultaneously. Ability to take ownership of projects throughout the publishing process. Willing to travel. Thorough familiarity with requirements for preparing manuscript to move smoothly through production. Knowledge of publishing process. Experience in managing multiple, high-priority projects. BS in related field. 3 or more years experience in book publishing.
