Position Description:
TITLE: Editorial Director, Product Development DIVISION:Scholastic Classroom & Library Group LOCATION:NYO REPORTING TO:VP & Publishing, Publishing Group DIRECT REPORTS: Supervising Editor: TBDWorks closely with the Publisher to develop against plan and vision for the Supplemental Publishing group, especially in the areas of interactive technologies and audio. Experience in teaching, especially Middle and High School is a plus. The Editorial Director is responsible for all aspects of the editorial publishing process of the projects assigned, including but not limited to schedules, coordinating prepub budgets, specifying components and ensuring assignment of ISBN, as well as trafficking and gaining all approvals before and during development. This position is also directly responsible for helping ensure accurate forecasts, watch inventory levels, and direct reprints. This position also acts as the main contact between product development and all manufacturing and Supply Chain functions. The Editorial Director establishes and helps implement streamlined processes and new tools that improve the timeliness and quality of our classroom publishing. It is critical for this position to work well across teams and departments, building and strengthening relationships with internal Scholastic team members and external vendors. This position is also responsible for the budgeting and scheduling of any and all training or education of staff members on developmental processes and new systems and technologies as it relates to product development.ACCOUNTABILITIES: Market Knowledge – Ensures continued growth of knowledge about the K-12 educational market including technology. Editorial – Work with other Editorial Directors to help shape and execute the overall vision and business plan, with a specific attention to and accountability for light forms of technologies, such as e-and-audio books. Ensures high-degree of creative and sound pedagogy and instructional experiences/activities for all students, especially those in Middle and High School. Team Building– Responsible for the identification and recruitment of talented instructional designers that meet Scholastic’s commitment to diversity. Shared Services- Works with Scholastic Education’s shared services to ensure adequate resource assignment. Directly responsible to ensuring adherence to the schedule and budgets. Helps with resource management. Maintains all cross-editorial guidelines and style guides. Project Management - Adheres to the publishing schedule for all formats; implement agreed plans for product development. Meet revenue-based deadlines and assist other team members as needed. Is directly responsible for communication between product development and all other departments to ensure clear communication and manage asset needs. Coordinates and helps traffic rounds of development. Represents groups at weekly status and production meetings.Process Improvement – Works with team and broader Scholastic to ensure continuous process improvements to achieve best practice. Highlight, assess and resolve production cycle issues. Preparation, management and delivery of data for production, including maintaining and updating master files of publications.Communication – Build effective relationships with colleagues, and external vendors and partners to ensure efficient execution of day-to-day operations and strategic plans. Communicate and work proactively with each Editorial Director, peers and editorial staff regarding projects, problems and solutions.Relationship Management - Manages suppliers, ensuring on-time delivery and follows up on quality issues.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: Former and proven record of successful leadership in core or supplemental publishing. Proven abilities to develop technology-oriented content.
