FINANCE DIRECTOR

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible preparing monthly and annual financial statements for the magazine company and the corporate financial department; these statements compare actual financial performance against departmental budgets in whose preparation this position plays a key role in support of other department heads each year.  The position also prepares sales and tax information and tax filings and various reports related to the magazine that may be required to support the corporate staff.

As a result, the director must possess strong analytical and communication skills to help identify and describe the cause of variances and their potential positive or negative consequences on the company.  This individual must have the capacity and interest to learn the important aspects of the various departments in a publishing company, be able to work independently, be an effective problem solver, and have a solid background in accounting.This position is also responsible for identifying administrative needs affecting the organization as a whole and seeing that they are appropriately handled.  This includes the supervision of the office receptionist. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  On a daily basis, this position is responsible for posting payments for advertising, circulation, and the custom communication departments.

2.  Responsible for coding invoices from vendors for payment.

3.  Keep track of the Aging Accounts Receivable report on a weekly basis.

4.  On a monthly basis, prepare financial statements, sales and use tax, advertising commissions and draws, advertising and Custom Communication billing, advertising and Custom Communication statements and custom statements.

5.  On an annual basis, prepare tax work papers, financial open entries for the new year, Financial Survey and budgets.

6.  All other duties as assigned.

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 1. Must possess a degree in Finance and/or Accounting

2. Minimum of 2 years accounting experience. 

3. Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office

4. Must be able to operate keyboard, MCBA software experience a plus.

5.  Working knowledge of the publishing industry is preferred or, alternatively, experience in a manufacturing company is a plus
