Position Description:
Variety, the premier entertainment magazine is looking for an experienced Group Print Production Director. The primary responsibilities of the Group Print Production Director will be to manage a department of up to 10 production and creative staff members, oversee the planning and printing of multiple high frequency magazine titles (including daily publications), and a high volume of special marketing projects. This position will also be responsible for all corporate reporting requirements, department and manufacturing budget management, staff reviews, goal and task setting and all related personnel issues.The Group Print Production Director will manage special supplemental marketing and sales projects, from inception through manufacturing. This position will oversee development of issue plans, traffic materials, monitor deadlines and develop schedules. They will work closely with the sales and marketing departments to develop new products and revenue opportunities and to ensure client and sales expectations are met or exceeded. The candidate will work with print vendors and distribution departments to ensure that high quality products are produced cost effectively and in a timely manner. They will work with the department staff, IT teams and vendors to implement new technology and create efficient electronic workflows. Financial responsibilities will also include creating manufacturing budgets, accruals and variance reports and for all products, weekly review of invoice/purchase order discrepancies and weekly ad percentage reports for the post office.The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 10 years experience working in a print publication environment and must have departmental level managerial experience. This is a hands-on production position as well as a strategic management position; therefore, we are looking for an individual that can act as a business partner as well as a department leader. The individual must be a team player and work extremely well under pressure. This candidate must be prepared to provide immediate and efficient results. Experience and knowledge of the entertainment industry is a definite plus. Experience and knowledge of planning systems, PDF workflows, content management and XML is a definite plus.
