HP UX / Senior Oracle Database EngineerHeadquartered in scenic Port Washington, NY, Publishers Clearing House is a leading multi-channel direct marketer of value-based consumer products and magazines promoted with a chance to win huge sweepstakes prizes through the mail or from its rapidly growing website, pch.com. With approximately 400 full-time employees, over 40% of the company’s profits go to the benefit of charities. PCH is currently seeking a HP UX / Senior Oracle Database Engineer. JOB DESCRIPTION: PCH is currently seeking a Senior Oracle Database Engineer who will be responsible for managing and coordinating all administrative activities and operational support for a large complex UNIX based system and all of its components. The position requires a high level of technical expertise with configuring, installing and maintaining HP Unix Server Hardware, Operating Systems and Oracle Databases with minimal support and guidance.  Responsibilities include: Responsible for coordination of server hardware/software installation, patches and upgrades Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, take appropriate corrective action and/or interact with IS staff or vendors in performing complex testing, support and troubleshooting functions; Ensure the high availability of production Unix systems, services, databases and applications Automate system administration tasks using shell scripting languages Responsible for the integrity and security of the organizations data. Design, develop, implement and test data backup/recovery and disaster recovery procedures Coordinate the installation and maintenance for all UNIX user applications Assess and reduce system and network security vulnerabilities; Conduct security audits Provide on-call support for 24x7 systems availability by responding and addressing automated alerts as well as user reported problems. Perform reviews of all database designs, SQL statements and shell scripts provided by Application Development Monitor Unix and application performance/capacity and implement required changes Develop and enforce standards and best practice guidelines for the efficient use of the UNIX and Oracle database environments.  SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:At least 6 years of Oracle database administrator experience in a Unix environment Understanding of Unix administration and concepts in an HP9000 PA-RISC environment Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline Expertise in backup and recovery techniques Experience with HP Ignite-UX, HP Data Protector and Oracle Recovery Manager Proficient with scripting languages such as Posix shell, ksh, perl and Structured Query Language (SQL) Strong understanding of Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and Journaling File System (JFS) In-depth knowledge of industry standard Internet protocols and network services, such as TCP/IP, LDAP, DNS, sendmail, etc. Familiarity with storage subsystems (IBM DS4400) and RAID configurations Experience with Lawson Insight Finance and BMC Control-M Scheduler software desired Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work well in a team oriented environment Publishers Clearing House is an Equal Opportunity Employer. To apply, please include a cover letter and salary history.
