Manager, Interactive Strategy

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

This role is required to develop, implement, maintain, coordinate and communicate the full program of work for Economist.com as it pursues its aggressive growth and investment strategy. This will require clearly defining and evolving the road map for the program, the benefits that will be produced and the measurements that will be used to track success. It will also include identifying the portfolio of projects that make up the program, ensuring that those projects adhere to the prescribed internal project framework and that they deliver the identified business benefits on time and to budget.

 

ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

· Improving the way Economist.com manages change

· Program managing Economist.com’s strategy

· Defining and implementing a program office and makng available standardized shared resources (templates, information, learning, methodologies)

· Developing an appropriate communication plan for all stakeholders that addresses their interests within the program

· Identifying and managing the project portfolio that will deliver the strategy

· Developing project processes to fit with the business

· Ensuring projects follow the prescribed project process and are correctly documented

· Identifying and managing dependencies between projects in the portfolio

· Establishing financial planning for the program and related projects

· Preparing and obtaining approval on annual budgets for the program

· Reporting on program progress

· Agreeing Key Performance Indicators for program and/or projects

 

DECISION RIGHTS:

· Prioritising of projects

· Initiating and/or closing of projects

· Development of program financial budgets

· Hiring and allocation of resources to enable the program

· Management of program office budget

 

PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

· Delivery of the step change as defined in the strategy

· Project adherence to the prescribed project framework

· Adherence to budget and cost consciousness

· Developing a shared understanding of the program and project management requirements within the business

· Extent to which business change is improved

· Quality of projects delivered

 

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

Skills and capabilities:

· Five years’ experience in project management preferred

· Strong writing skills

· Ability to communicate at different levels

· Excellent interpersonal skills

· Attention to detail and accuracy

· Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills

· Ability to work independently and coordinate the work of others

· Able to translate unstructured thoughts into clear and concise messages

· Commercially aware

· Show innovative ways to get the job done

· Generate ideas

· Thrive in a dynamic environment

 

 

PREFERRED / ADVANTAGEOUS SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

· Experience managing multiple projects

· Experience managing projects in a software development environment

· International project experience

· Exposure to publishing and/or media industry

· Use of MS project and Visio
