Managing Editor

If you're fed up with everyone whining and moaning about the state of the newspaper industry, if you think the way to get more readers is to be creative and thoughtful about giving them something they actually want to read, if you like the idea of putting together content for some of the smartest people in the state, and if you're interested in being a leader, rather than a follower, then we might be the match for you.

We're The Warren Group -- a 136-year old family-owned company that publishes two highly-acclaimed newspapers: Banker & Tradesman in Massachusetts and The Commercial Record for Connecticut. Our readers are smart, fast, feisty and demanding. Our products have to live up to high standards – and they have, for well over a century.

We cover the trail of money, the stories that make our economy soar or swoon. If you know how to think about stories beyond the obvious, if you know your responsibility is to be smarter than your readers, if you know that great storytelling is rooted in both cleverness and deep understanding, then you may be the managing editor we're looking for. You'll need at least two years' experience leading a news team and the ability to demonstrate you know how to beckon readers and motivate a reporting team.

You'll work with one editor above you, a peer Web Editor, and a four-person reporting staff. You'll be responsible for two weekly newspapers and for helping shape our new online offerings. We're looking for an editor who knows enough to insist on serious journalism, but also knows how to bring passion and fun into our information offerings.
