Systems Analyst - Evening Shift

The New York Times Company has an immediate need for a Systems Analyst who will provide technical support and expertise related to all operational aspects of the company's communication network infrastructure, ensuring it operates optimally and meets current and future business needs. This is an evening shift position (4:00 PM - 12:00 midnight) which will also occasionally require the individual to participate as a member of the 24-hour, on-call rotation team. The position is located in our Boston office at The Boston Globe.

 

The Systems Analyst is responsible for maintaining the ongoing operational functionality of the local area and wide area network, which consists of, but is not limited to devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers.  S/he will support and troubleshoot network problems; work with third party providers; and assist in the day-to-day support of networks for The New York Times and its Strategic Business Units (SBU).  The successful candidate will also assist in operational and maintenance activities related to data networking equipment and software at other SBU’s.

 

Responsibilities Include:Demonstrate expertise in supporting the operational aspects of the company’s network  Understanding the business requirements of customers and providing solutionsMonitor the Service Desk queue for network trouble ticketsTroubleshoot LAN/WAN equipment Monitor and maintain the health and performance of the network infrastructure through any network management framework (i.e. HPOV, Nortel ENMS, Nortel NetIQ, Concord, Mazu, Cisco Works).Responsible for ordering and configuring networking equipment.Follow Enterprise Network Services change control procedures

 

Work Experience Required:Experience with Nortel and Cisco data networking equipment (especially Nortel 8600 and 5500 series switches)Familiarity with Nortel switch admin GUIs such as JDM and EPMFamiliarity with load balancers (i.e. Nortel Alteon, Net Continuum)Knowledge of network monitoring and management tools and processes is required. (HP Operview NNM)Ability to quickly understand problems identified by staff and select appropriate resolutions.A good understanding of basic networking concepts and protocols (i.e. IP addressing, VLANs, routing, layer 3 switching, HSRP, OSPF, BGP, etc.)Knowledge of industry best practices. Ability to maintain a network of peers and associates within the industry.
