Chief Financial Officer
Position Description
The Confidential Company oversees assets in office, multi-family, industrial, medical office, parking structures, and land nationwide.
The Chief Financial Officer-Real Estate reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer - Real Estate.
The Real Estate CFO is responsible for driving discipline and success in all areas of accounting and finance for the Real Estate Group. The Real Estate CFO acts as a business partner and advisor to the Executive team in the areas of corporate strategy, corporate development and operational excellence with emphasis on world class accounting, reporting, and management.
Position Requirements
1. Must have significant commercial/medical office real estate experience.
2. Must have experience managing large multi-state real estate portfolios from an operations/financial prospective.
3. Must be able to demonstrate experience establishing and fostering investor relations.
4. Must have proven track record of securing and administering debt financing.
5. Requires a minimum of fifteen years of progressive finance and accounting experience with five to 10 years of experience in a senior executive financial position.
6. Prior experience as a Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Finance, Division Chief Financial Officer, or Director of Finance or Controller.
7. CPA and prior work experience in public accounting is preferred.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
9. Working knowledge of GAAP a must.
10. Proven ability to develop strong relationships with key executives and cross-functional teams as well as with investors, bankers and key stakeholders in real estate acquisitions and management.
11. Strong business acumen with the ability to envision and grasp long-term, over-arching goals as well as micro-processes and their details.
12. Prior experience creating and analyzing business development opportunities is preferred.
13. Strong demonstrable communication skills, both written and verbal.
14. Prior experience administering multi-investor real estate funds is preferred
Position Description
· Corporate and Operational Accounting – The Real Estate CFO works closely with the Real Estate Group to manage the month-end close, corporate, consolidation, and operational accounting functions ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
· Financial and Management Reporting – The Real Estate CFO is responsible for monthly and yearly internal financial reporting packages for presentation to the Real Estate COO and Corporate CEO. This includes periodic U.S. GAAP financials and management reporting that analyzes important business metrics.
· Budgeting – The Real Estate CFO is responsible for managing the annual budget, including evaluating existing processes for completeness and accuracy. The Real Estate CFO establishes baseline expectations, variance analysis, presentations and reviews as part of the budget approval process.
· Strategic Planning and Operational Excellence – The Real Estate CFO must be an accomplished strategist who acts as principal advisor to the Real Estate COO, and is responsible for developing multi-year strategic plans.
· Contingency Analysis and Solutions - The Real Estate CFO is responsible for an early warning system that identifies weaknesses in operations and for implementation of viable strategies to remedy such performance issues.
· Business Analysis and Decision Support – The Real Estate CFO acts as a financial business partner to the functional leaders throughout the Real Estate Group, developing financial models to assist other executives in making informed business decisions. The Real Estate CFO must develop an in depth understanding of how the business operates and how operations affect the overall financial performance.
· Corporate Development – The Real Estate CFO works closely with the COO to develop valuation models for any potential acquisition activities. The Real Estate CFO is a key stakeholder in due diligence and post-acquisition integration efforts. The Real Estate CFO evaluates and briefs management on impacts a proposed acquisition will have in terms of profitable revenue growth, cost savings, tax issues and performance synergies.
· External Audit, Legal and Tax – The Real Estate CFO will coordinate year-end audits with the public accounting firm, administer their progress and implement relevant recommendations. The Real Estate CFO is the primary liaison and contact for the Company’s law firm and other legal advisors. The Real Estate CFO reviews the preparation of the Company’s tax returns and assist in the coordination of tax advisory and consulting services performed by a third party CPA firm.
· Human Resources, IT and Risk Management – The Real Estate CFO will oversee and take primary responsibility for Human Resource, Information Technology and Risk Management / Insurance functions.
