AP Accountant

The Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for moderately complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements. Responsible for all aspects of accounting in a specific area including monthly journal entries and financial reports.

1. Vendor set-up / maintenance
2. Processing and posting merchandise invoices, non-merchandise expense invoices, travel expense reimbursements, as well as vendor chargebacks/claims
3. Processing check / wire payments (including voids) for merchandise and non-merchandise expense vendors
4. Check reconciliations
5. Review reporting on a weekly/monthly basis and resolve exceptions as needed
6. Respond to vendor/internal inquiries
7. Balancing A/P sub-ledger to general ledger weekly
8. Preparing Monthly balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries and month-end close activities


Must possess the ability to:

„X Verify that IRS balancing of accounts payable interfaces with general ledger
„X Prepare manual journal entries to the general ledger
„X Reconcile and maintain expense accounts and ensure appropriate accruals each month
„X Ensure adherence to departmental standards and controls
„X Maintain high level of productivity
„X Comply with ethical and legal standards
„X Follow up on all outstanding issues on a timely basis
„X Maintain excellent customer service and vendor relations
„X Assist with special projects and departmental goals
„X Identify areas of opportunity/weakness and recommend solutions for achieving optimal efficiency in a controlled environment
„X Maintain financial and operational controls and procedures
„X Maintain computerized systems


„X Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred
„X Two to three years accounting or related experience in Payroll, Financial Reporting, General Ledger, Sales Audit, or Inventory Control, as appropriate
„X Two years experience in accounting and/or finance operations, preferably with a company with annual volume in excess of $100 million
„X Experience in journal entry preparation, auditing and balance sheet reconciliation preferred
„X Excellent customer service skills

„X Proven organizational skills
„X Intermediate/Advanced PC Skills - Excel, Word and Access
