JOB SUMMARY: 

Achieves assigned goals and objectives including sales, gross margin, and IMU.  Selects and purchases merchandise including type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix and promotion for the jewelry department.  Creates and implements plans to maximize gross profit by coordinating sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, cost of promotion and markdowns for jewelry.  Selects and evaluates vendors and negotiates product cost.

 



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



 

Qualified candidates must possess the ability to:

§ Recommend and direct the development and implementation of accessories merchandise strategy and tactical plans.

§ Partner with Advertising/Marketing to maximize merchandising opportunities and recommend programs/plans to supervisor for implementation.

§ Develop and communicate effective merchandising programs at store level.  Ensure store merchandising standards in close partnership with the store operations management team, to include store displays and visual merchandising.

§ Ensure beneficial vendor alliances.  Identify new business opportunities consistent with VCDS business strategies.

§ Maintain effective accessories merchandise control systems including replenishment, open-to-buy, seasonal, etc.

§ Work closely with Planning & Allocation teams to ensure that jewelry merchandise forecasting is in line with business plan.

§ Supervise assistant buyer(s) and merchandiser(s).  Conduct annual and on-going evaluations and recommend appropriate promotion and disciplinary action.  Mentor/coach subordinates and ensure that development programs are maintained and on track.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:



 

§ Bachelors Degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing, or Business; or equivalent work experience

§ 5-7 years merchant experience

§ 1-3 years merchandising experience within jewelry, accessories, handbags, etc.
