BUYER-EXPERIENCED IN SOFT GOODS ONLY

Job Title:  BUYER (SOFT GOODS)

 

Summary

Coordinates the procurement and distribution of soft goods to each store by performing the following duties:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following and other duties may be assigned.

 

-Purchases soft goods for retail sales.

-Checks each store to determine which items need to be ordered and places orders with the vendor.

-Visits each store to ensure that the merchandise is displayed properly.

-Checks inventory at each store.

-Balances goods at each store to make sure that there is an even distribution between each store.

-Keeps abreast on the latest trends on tourist based goods and souvenirs.

-Conducts market research on new items, new vendors, and new products.

-Conducts analysis of which items are doing well and categorizes which colors, styles, sizes are working well.

-Keeps a strong relationship with established vendors and builds relationships with new vendors.

-Attends trade shows to find out what are the hot items for each season.

-Solicits and evaluates proposals from vendors for various soft goods.

-Negotiates the lowest possible costs for the merchandise balanced on the quality, quantity, and scheduled needs.

-Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems through the proper channels. Directly responsible for 1-2 employees that are assistants.

Education and/or Experience

 

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university or related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A minimum of ten years of experience which includes solid relationships with vendors selling tourist based merchandise. Basic math skills are required.

 

Language Skills  

· Ability to speak and comprehend English.

· Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 

· Ability to write well-written correspondence.

 

Mathematical Skills  

Intermediate level math skills necessary.
