Position Description:
Scholastic Book Fairs works with schools across the country to host more than 120,000 annual reading events, connecting more than 55 million children with great books each year. Book Fairs foster enthusiasm for reading, while helping to build school and classroom libraries by providing students, teachers and parents access to thousands of books and educational products at affordable prices. We are looking for a Branch Manager to plan, schedule, direct and execute the day-to-day operational activities within our distribution center. Key responsibilities include:Financial ManagementIn conjunction with Regional Management, plan and prepare annual budget for Branch.Achieve financial results and manage business-operating costs effectively.Responsible for achieving Branch budgeted goals (operating costs, revenue per fair, timely service to customers, and overall branch profitability).Operations ManagementImplement operational efficiency improvements and metrics to achieve branch’s financial results.Ensure the branch is utilizing effective methods of packing, set-up, delivery, pick-up of book fairs; utilize capacity planning and staffing methods to assure optimum productivity.Oversee the production management system to ensure that plans are generated, implemented, and completed on a daily basis.Conduct warehouse sales to reduce inventory levels and maximize revenue stream.Monitor, evaluate, and manage inventory utilization and control procedures/processes.Oversee driver routing to assure timely deliveries.Oversee truck specifications and preventive care program of all vehicles to assure minimal maintenance costs and safety of the vehicles.Ensure proper record keeping for drivers (DOT, etc.).Ensure monthly Safety Meetings are conducted.Oversee the completion of all forms in compliance with worker’s compensation, motor vehicle accidents, and personal property loss.Maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment while focusing on minimizing work-related injuries and auto losses, complying with OSHA guidelines, and Company directives.LeadershipHire, train, develop and evaluate drivers, warehouse personnel and supervisory staff.Assure all assets are secured and handled appropriately to minimize product damage and property loss.Execute Company policies, procedures, and programs in a professional, effective, and timely manner.Provide superior customer service while maintaining cost controls.Plan and conduct staff meetings to inform, educate, and recognize employees, as well as to provide a forum for exchange of ideas.Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training/development, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating employees in a timely and objective manner.Responsible for documentation of disciplinary issues as they relate to performance behavior.Maintain business confidentiality relative to personnel, pricing, promotion, customer lists, and methods of distribution.Maintain communication between Operations and Sales teams to enhance overall business needs.Perform all tasks as directed by Regional Management.Our generous full time benefits include career opportunities, competitive salaries and comprehensive healthcare, 401(k) and pension plans and a 50% employee discount!
Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in Management, Business, Transportation, or Operations related curriculum preferred.Minimum of 4 years of proven front-line management experience in operations for a manufacturing or distribution company.Demonstrated capability to manage a high quality, efficient and cost-effective operations a must.Facilities management experience preferred.Inventory management experience preferred.Fleet/Logistics management a plus.Inventory control experience with hands-on management of warehouse products, supplies and goods.EOE/AA/H/V/DFWP
