COMPENSATION SPECIALIST

Furniture Brands International is seeking the position of Compensation Specialist, at our Clayton, MO, corporate headquarters (Metropolis; Saint Louis).

 

Reporting to the Director of Compensation, the Compensation Specialist implements and administers employee and executive compensation programs including job pricing, base salary delivery, short- and long-term incentive programs and equity compensation; ensures that compensation programs are aligned with Furniture Brands International compensation philosophy and overall talent strategy.  The position manages internal salary levels with the external value of the job, with a reflection of employee contribution and performance.

 

The Compensation Specialist maintains company-wide job description library; manages the PeopleSoft Job Code table and assists employees and their supervisors in documenting new or changed jobs. The position obtains and analyzes information for management of compensation surveys, market pricing and compensation structure. Other responsibilities include the ensuring correct classification of jobs according to federal and state wage legislation (FLSA Classification), working with Staffing Specialists by creating competitive job offers (job descriptions, assigning pay levels; conducting analysis and recommendations for compensation level); responding to compensation inquires; coordinating the company-wide annual salary review process; administrating all salary actions for new hires, promotions and transfers; assisting in the preparation of competitive analysis of compensation data (internal and external compensation) and day-to-day administration of equity compensation programs.  The position may manage outsourced administration by a third-party vendor and maintains close interface with Finance Department and Service Center Payroll.

 

The Compensation Specialist stays current on compensation best practices and regulatory trends by reading technical journals and news sources to understand economic conditions and competitive forces within the labor market and understands the company vision and how it relates to the compensation function.

 

Requirements include a strong mathematical aptitude and excellent analytical skills, be proficient in various software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and H.R. database systems such as PeopleSoft or SAP, have experience in utilizing complex spreadsheets or software in administration and reporting of compensation practices and programs and possess the ability to extract relevant information from SEC filings, proxy statements and annual reports.

 

A Bachelors degree is desirable, or a minimum 2-year diploma in Human Resources, Finance, or Business Administration with up to 3 years relevant work experience in a compensation staff role, a Human Resources function, consulting or related field. The role requires familiarity with standard compensation concepts, practices and procedures with experience in Equity Administration or Executive Compensation at a publicly traded company as a plus. Working knowledge of FLSA rules, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and SEC reporting practices is also required. The Compensation Specialist must possess poise and professionalism, have the ability to develop good relationships with internal and external customers and demonstrate the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
