Case Goods (Bedroom & Dining Room Furniture) Buyer

Our case goods (bedroom and dining room furniture) Buyer is directly responsible for the purchase of merchandise for resale by performing the following duties:

 

Key Responsibilities: Recommends product selection based on need. Supervises the preparation of all necessary paperwork for processing. Purchases and ensure proper flow of product.Works with Advertising and Vendors to develop all POP materials to support product.Reviews all price tags to ensure accuracy.Works with Corporate Display Manager to assist in determining floor placements.Works closely with visuals to maximize displays.Communicates to stores about new products and changes.Conducts sales education meetings.Monitors performance of merchandise.Recommends clearance pricing for slow moving items.Reviews all price discrepancies daily.Recommends merchandise for advertising.Proofs and approves advertising layouts and copy.Works closely with accounting to ensure proper payment of invoices.Visits stores regularly to ensure merchandise is properly displayed and priced.Works closely with stores to provide necessary information about purchase order arrival and other merchandising questions.Reviews merchandise returns and exchanges to determine quality problems.Prices clearance and damaged merchandise for liquidation.

 Supervisory Responsibilities:  Directly supervises employees in the Merchandising Department.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.Interviewing, hiring, and training employees.Planning, assigning, and directing work.Appraising performance.Providing corrective action.Addressing complaints and problem resolution.

Requirements:

Education/Experience/Communication:Associate’s degree or equivalent merchandising work experience of 10 years within the furniture industry.Demonstrated buying/purchasing experience of at least one product category, preferred.Similar experience in a multi-location organization.Ability to read and interpret documents.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively to all levels and in presentations.

 

Mathematic Skills:Understanding and mastery of merchandising numerical concepts including, but not limited to: inventory, pricing and mark-up, turnover, logistics, freight, categories and mix, advertising, and reorder ratios. Demonstrate understanding of  Metric System conversions.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.Create and interpret bar graphs.

Understand Consumer Behavior:Demonstrate a satisfactory level of knowledge of the process of identifying customers’ buying behaviors, traits, habits, and preferences, including demographic and psychological preferences.



Computer skills: Working knowledge of order processing systemsEffective use of internet, spreadsheet and word processing software (MS Office Suite).



Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to effectively handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
