Job Description:

 

Buyer/Category Manager opportunities are available with various retail clients from grocery, department, apparel, home goods and chain drug stores experiencing strong growth throughout the U.S. retail market.  Specific needs in health and beauty care, general merchandise, grocery and seasonal imports.   

 

Responsibilities:Interviewing and negotiating with Manufactures and vendors. Developing category strategic plans i.e., weekly, seasonal and annual merchandising programs. Adhering to quantitative responsibilities in sales, gross margin and GMROII. Maintaining positive trade relations and developing strategic alliances. Maintaining competitive analysis, including competitive store visits. Developing and implementing promotional strategies. Optimizing SKU mix, sales and gross margin and the achievement of sales and gross margin budgets for the category as it relates to the strategic plan. Improving Customer Service. Work with cross-functional team to deliver category goals. 

Job Requirements:Bachelor’s degree is required.  (Degree preferred in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing/Finance.) A Masters Degree preferred.  Retail experience is a plus but not required. 6-10 years experience in an analytical, merchandising and/or buying capacity with some management experience highly desired but not mandatory.  Technical experience should include MS Office, knowledge of (Nielsen) market data, and Access. Demonstrated working experience in Marketing Strategies, vendor and product negotiations, item and promotional pricing along with item selection is required.  Strong communication (written and oral) and presentation skills. Importing experience is a plus. Product development experience.
