As Communications Manager you and your team will play a key role in creating the strategic communications plans for PetSmart Charities. This will require developing marketing, public relations and media relations programs designed to create and maintain a favorable public image for PetSmart Charities Inc. and build the PetSmart Charities brand. This will include creating and implementing communications via print, web and other electronic-based medium and leveraging those technologies both internally and externally. You will work with the various business teams as a consultant to assist with creating communications essential for the success of fundraising, grants and programs, and in-store promotions. You will also provide direction and leadership for a Communications Representative and Communications Facilitator. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Creates and executes communications strategies designed to increase awareness of PetSmart Charities programs, accomplishments, or point of view, among various target audiences, including, the general public, animal welfare groups, PetSmart associates and the media. Creates collateral materials including the annual report, promotional brochures, newsletters and works with inside resources and outside suppliers for layout and printing as needed. Develops and maintains positive relations with key media reaching PetSmart Charities constituencies. Directs PetSmart Charities-specific press relations including such activities as preparation of news releases and feature articles relating to grant and sponsorship funding. Serves as organizational spokesperson. Represents PetSmart Charities during community projects at public, social and animal welfare gatherings. Coordinates advertising and promotional material with PetSmart Inc.’s marketing and advertising departments’ to achieve the public relations objectives of PetSmart Charities. Manages content and design of the PetSmart Charities web page. Researches and stays abreast of emerging trends and developments in social media and other forms of electronic media. Serves as communications consultant to internal teams, helping develop effective communications to all stakeholders. Solicits feedback from cross-functional groups to improve communications. Directs outside agencies, freelancers and other external business partners. Develops and manages the PetSmart Charities budget for communications and public relations. Hires, leads and develops staff. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications with a minimum of four years experience in Communications or Public Relations with strong project management skills and the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences. Your experience should include media relations, community relations issues management, and public affairs. You will need to have the ability to motivate and mentor team members and effectively consult with Sr. level managers. Advanced writing and editing skills with strong customer service skills to effectively maintain positive relationships with both internal and external constituents.
