Construction Manager Overview
To supervise assigned Kroger Project Engineers in executing the New and Remodel store and Fuel Center programs for the assigned Division(s), at the lowest cost and in the shortest time period, consistent with the approved scopes of work and appropriated funds. This position will also involve management of individual projects.
Essential Job Functions
· Operate as the Company’s representative on assigned construction store projects
· Review construction plans and specifications (prepared by outside consultants) for consistency with project scope and company objectives
· Ensure that contractors perform in accordance with plans and specifications.
· Evaluate construction activity versus the published schedule, and anticipate problems that could impact the schedule or cost
· Work to ensure lowest possible cost to the Company for any changes ordered or caused by the Company after the plans have been finalized
· Direct the completion of Due Diligence work for determining project feasibility and cost
· Prepare and/or review and evaluate construction and fixturing estimates for assigned projects
· Request and verify receipt of necessary internal approvals to spend capital, prior to authorizing purchasing commitments. Help administer Change Order process.
· Prepare requisitions for major equipment, fixtures, and supply items, and for contracted work
· Prepare and/or review and evaluate detailed scopes of work, adequate for bidding the installation of remodels by appropriate contractors; receive proposals and award contracts
· Ensure that proper documentation occurs throughout the projects
· Effectively communicate with all stakeholders in assigned projects, particularly with respect to determining or changing scope and schedule. Work closely with the Division Real Estate Department(s)
· Help develop Construction Project Engineers by training them in all of the above
Minimum Qualifications
· Four year degree in Engineering (minimum)
· Basic financial training
· Knowledge of purchasing systems and Microsoft Excel software
