JOB DESCRIPTION
American Apparel is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to assist in the preparation/reconciliation of inventory balance sheet accounts, cost variance reports, standard cost rolls, cost accounting journal entries, and other cost accounting reports. Cost Accountant will also assist in implementation of the integrated MRP system, analyze manufacturing trends, costs, purchases, receipts, variances to perform analysis of current results and develop manufacturing budgets and forecasts.

NOTE: Applicants must have the required experience and skills in order to apply. Salary compensation based on previous work experience and salary history. This is a full-time and permanent position. Other duties of this position include but are not limited to those described below:

RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and resolve inventory issues and cost variance fluctuations.
Research and implementation of cost accounting standards with an emphasis  in implementing and documenting internal control procedures as they relate to  Sarbanes-Oxley.
Inventory roll-forward and Inventory Reserve reconciliations; and preparation  related journal entries.
Gross Profit reconciliation; Under/Over absorption variance analysis.
Identifying potential opportunities through cost analysis.
Offer suggestions about resource utilization, inventory and cost accounting  procedures, and assumptions underlying standard product costs.
Prepare data, analyses, and variance explanations to support management  decision making.
Performs other duties as deemed necessary (i.e. cycle count program audits  and SOX reporting, record retention, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS
BA/BS with an emphasis in Accounting/Finance.
Must have 5+ years cost accounting experience.
General accounting and finance experience a plus.
Strong planning, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
Attention to detail, organized and thorough.
Team player that can thrive in a fast paced environment.

PREFERED SKILLS
Demonstrate a solid grasp of cost and inventory accounting, general business  concepts, realistic judgment, and quantitative and critical thinking skills.
Maintain data integrity and accuracy and use data to identify and solve  problems.
Plan, organize and prioritize multiple tasks within a defined time period.
Write and speak clearly and concisely.
Display a comprehensive understanding of internal controls.
Work effectively with others.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and use of the internet.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
