The Finish Line, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading athletic retailers, specializing in brand-name footwear, apparel, and accessories. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Finish Line serves customers in nearly 700 Finish Line stores, more than 90 Man Alive stores, and online.
As a strategic business partner, the Director of Employee Relations aligns employee relations strategies with the company’s overall goals and provides HR expertise on maintaining a well-qualified and productive workforce. The position oversees all employee relations functions for our corporate headquarters, distribution center, and retail locations. This includes providing direction to the employee relations team and advising on company policy and procedures, performance and behavioral issues, investigations, management consultations, terminations, and other employee-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
• Directs the activities of the employee relations function; builds the employee relations team, coaches and develops employees, provides feedback on performance, and establishes performance goals and expectations.
• Collaborates with HR staff; partners with and advises management on HR-related issues; provides expertise on disciplinary actions, terminations, performance management, state/federal employment laws, etc.
• Develops and implements personnel policies and practices; partners with management to communicate human resource policies and ensure consistency in application; handles ongoing interpretation and tracking of policies and procedures.
• Oversees the employee relations team as it supports the rollout and maintenance of compensation and benefits programs.
• Coordinates responses to federal/state/local regulatory agencies (EEOC, DOL, etc.) when necessary, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Oversees all training conducted by the employee relations team and ensures the quality of the programs; assists regional staff with training as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field.
• Minimum of ten years of HR management experience.
• PHR/SPHR designation is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated success in leading and managing a multi-state field employee relations function.
• Ability to make recommendations to effectively solve problems, using judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and/or government law.
• Excellent employee relations and coaching skills with the ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex and emotional issues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
