Director of Internal Audit
The Senior Manager/Director of Internal Audit will have primary responsibility for overseeing the company’s internal audit function. The Internal Audit function will:
Establish and direct the strategic long and short-term goals, policies and procedures for the internal audit team. Examine the company’s system of internal controls and develop appropriate auditing strategies to include measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of accounting controls, computerized systems and operations, and recommending improvements. Provide consultation relating to all financial risks;Oversee the completion of internal audits and communicate results to provide assurance to Audit Committee and management that Company resources are being utilized effectively and efficiently and that controls are adequate; Assist and support the Audit Committee in carrying out their responsibilities and meeting the Committee’s goals and objectives as set forth in the Committee CharterEnsure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act, SEC regulations and other local commercial compliance laws and requirements; Assist and support operating management in carrying out their responsibilities and meeting the Company’s goals and objectives.
Specifically, the position will: Lead internal audits to improve SEC and GAAP compliance. The role will oversee the development and execution of the annual risk assessment and audit plan; provide support to management in the remediation of identified control weaknesses; coordinate with external auditors, participate on the company’s disclosure committee and other related duties.Manage a team of professional internal auditors (internal and outside service provider resources) including hiring, training, and retention of staff; Manage a team of internal auditors (internal and outside service provider resources) to assist management in it’s assessment of internal controls over financial reporting, as required by Sarbanes-Oxley.Ensure that audit activity conducted by both the internal staff and outsourced service providers is properly communicated to and coordinated with management.
The Senior Manager/Director position will report directly to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and administratively to the Chief Financial Officer / Principal Accounting Officer.
The position will be expected to deliver the following to the organization:
Impact – specify new approaches, processes, and standards for addressing internal controls, risk management and operational efficiency based on the company’s strategy and operational plans. Implement internal control strategies with direct impact on business unit/function results.
Communication – effect change without direct exercise of command. Demonstrating value and convincing others within the organization of the need to maintain effective and efficient internal controls who may be skeptical or unwilling to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
Innovation – enhance entire processes, systems, or procedures. Analyze complex issues and modify working methods for addressing internal controls.
Knowledge – Broad know-how needed to conform to technical and ethical standards required of the position. Manage and lead internal and external teams through broad knowledge in most or all areas within a function.
Requirements
BA/BS in Accounting required; CPA or CIA required; 10+ years of financial accounting / auditing experience. Prior internal audit management experience preferred.Strong Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance experience; Strong working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, practices and compliance standards; Ability to travel
