Distribution Training Specialist

Distribution Training Specialist    PetSmart is seeking a Training Specialist to work in our fast paced, state of the art Distribution Center in Ottawa, Illinois.  This position reports directly to the General Manager.  The role will provide leadership in the areas of Safety, Service, Cost and People. SUMMARY The Training Specialist is responsible for all aspects of training and development for hourly department trainers through new hire training, recertification of equipment operators, and the monitoring of performance to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and philosophies.  The position will identify performance gaps and provide recommendations for improvement and training.  The key interfaces for this position include all managers, supervisors, and key corporate support partners.  Major Tasks and Accountabilities Deliver and ensure completion of all DC training programs for all DC technical training, including new hire programs, WMS training, and quality improvement.  Manage the delivery of specific programs and consult with the operations team on training delivery methods.  Partner with managers to identify individual and team performance obstructions and then integrate PetSmart strategies to support learning.    Consult with operations managers and supervisors to ensure adherence to prescribed training methods and utilization of instruction materials.  Partner with Corporate Training Manager on DC training programs and strategy.  Partner with Regional Safety Manager to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.  Evaluate associate progress and improvement against performance standards.  Issue routine and special reports to keep management informed on quality and service performance at the team, department and center levels.  Requirements of positionMinimum 4-year degree in Training or related field, or equivalent work experience 2-3 years training experience – scheduling, delivering and tracking training solutions Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email systems Demonstrate ability to handle multiple high priority tasks, working within deadlines and a strong sense of urgency. Excellent analytical and decision making skills Excellent communication skills verbally and in writing Excellent presentation skills Preferred Experience in a warehouse or distribution center environment Scope Indirect reports – hourly trainers, including certification of hourly trainers.
