As a Technical Designer, you ll work side by side with our Product Designers to ensure the design concepts are manufacturable and meet our Expect More. Pay Less brand promise. PRIMARY FUNCTION Create product technical specifications to align to quality standards established for specific owned brands. Ensure the timely resolution of all issues pertaining to the development and manufacturing of products in Furniture and related Home Dcor items. Evaluate and approve product samples to ensure brand integrity is maintained and product is compliant to all federal guidelines as it relates to the products performance. Provide technical product guidance to Design, Sourcing and Merchants in support of the Hardlines PD&D process.PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Product Development Partner with Designers, Merchants and Sourcing to understand the business initiatives, product functional requirements and performance expectations to ensure consistency of product across all categories within a given brand. Represent Technical Design as part of a Cross Function Team focused on taking furniture to new levels of styles, quality and value. Ensure brand integrity through the development of Furniture and Home Dcor product that continuously exceeds guest expectations, aligns to assortment pricing strategies, maintains consistency in brand quality across product categories and supports ongoing innovation and differentiation of the brand. Partner with Target Compliance and Production Services to understand and review product performance protocols and develop product to meet those requirements Provide efficient and effective development of product technical specifications to include: raw material standards, product dimensions, technical drawings, manufacturing process, assembly instructions for RTA Furniture, packaging direction, labeling requirements, and bill of materials (BOM) Interpret Trend and Design concepts by creating technical drawings (using Solidworks or other 3-D CAD) to depict the desired product dimensions and any dimension or manufacturing related callouts. Conduct timely sample evaluations and ensure approval of all products leading to the issue of a final production specification. Assist with creation and review of assembly instructions via usability studies focused on the Target guests experience and satisfaction Assist External Designer teams to ensure compliance to government regulations, proper packaging/labeling adherence, completeness of technical specifications and maintenance of pre-established quality standards. Provide timely resolution to issues relating to the manufacture of products. Research Maintain a working knowledge of government labeling requirements, safety protocols and Target performance standards for products across the Furniture and Home Decor categories. Understand benchmarks for specified owned brands to continuously evaluate and compare Target products to that of the competition and ensure Target product meets or exceeds the aesthetics and performance of the competitors product. Remain current in industry-leading manufacturing practices and equipment advances.
