Ideally they would like someone with some web or catalog experience but overall they are looking for someone with a solid merchandising background. This candidate could currently be a Sr. Buyer or at the DMM level. GENERAL SUMMARY: Runs the entire Merchandising department including: - Directing, coordinating and evaluating the activities of buyers. - Plans and coordinates buying, merchandising and promotion of products in area of responsibility. - Establishes annual merchandise plans and budget for area of responsibilities. - Monitors sales and profits in assigned areas and adjusts merchandising plan as needed to meet goals and objectives.Our client seeks a veteran GMM to be responsible for leading and directing staff in:1. Directs the activity of buyers to help optimize sales and profit through leadership, communication and training: Meets with buyers daily to review current information and sales activity, suggesting alternative buying/promotional plans as needed to keep department heading towards goals. Review product lines, Virtual Plan-O-Grams (also known as content pages and landing pages) approving or making changes where necessary. Assists buyers with problem resolution. 2. Manage the merchandise buy based on business analysis & merchandising trends: Reviews vendor lines, monitors market trends and sales activity in order to establish plans/alter plans as needed. Attends market and trade shows with buyers several times a year. Potentially travels overseas with buyers on buying trips. Review dollar sales by department and unit sales by category or style to monitor inventory balance and performance of vendors. 3. Establish merchandise plans & controls: forecasting, development, planning & analysis: Prepares seasonal merchandising plans. Works with buyers to determine nature, amount, scheduling, costs and pricing of merchandise for coming year. Presents plan to CEO for approval. Administers the merchandising plan. 4. Manage existing business & assist in growth of the company: Approves product purchases based on company merchandise plans and guidelines, consumer data and trends, historical performance data, manufacturer and vendor information, economic indicators, etc. Develops annual budget which includes sales and profit figures, space requests, promotional emphasis, product/product lines and advertising. Presents budget to supervisor for approval. 5. Investigates the impact of promotion/advertising on sales. Analyzes trends and market potential of new products presented by buyers. Meets with managers weekly to review overall operations and activities of area of responsibility. 6. Evaluates performance of buyers and assistant buyers. Motivates, counsels and provides direction to keep them moving towards established goals. Performs other related duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS: • Thorough knowledge of merchandising/marketing principles and practices, including inventory turn rates, margin analysis, and product/category life cycles. • Knowledge of retail budget formulation. • Sourcing and vendor negotiation skills. • Skill in analyzing sales and economic data, spotting trends, and developing contingency plans • Skill in problem analysis and resolution • Skill in establishing short/long term goals and objectives • Skill in establishing and implementing plans to reach goals and objectives. • Experience managing a significant number of SKU’s • Product development experience • Strong oral/written communication • Strong leadership skills and ability to work well with all levels of management. • Ability to consistently meet established deadlines • Ability to react quickly to changes in the market • Ability to develop detailed and maintain current knowledge of products, vendors, trends, etc., in assigned area of responsibility • Ability to prioritize work for self and others • Ability to develop strong partnerships with major vendor and supplier resource • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience • ECommerce and catalog experience preferred, but not required. • Highly technical, and PC literate.
