Position Description:
Scholastic Book Fairs works with schools across the country to host more than 120,000 annual reading events, connecting more than 55 million children with great books each year. Book Fairs foster enthusiasm for reading, while helping to build school and classroom libraries by providing students, teachers and parents access to thousands of books and educational products at affordable prices. We are looking for a Sales Trainee to assist the sales team while training for their own territory in the future. Responsibilities include:Gains knowledge and experience required for promotion to sales consultant positions under the direction of experienced sales consultants or direct supervisor.Receives training and performs duties in several areas such as sales, marketing promotional materials, warehousing, inventory, customer service, information systems(AS400 reports) to become familiar with the functions, operations, company policies and procedures that affect the Book Fairs business.Works in warehouse: identifies aisle locations of Brand fair materials, gains experience with cases, toppers, displays, cash registers, credit cards, costumes and how they are used, packs all Brand fairs, rides with a driver.Observes experienced sales consultant to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required to perform the job.Attends company-sponsored training as required.Attend hotel shows, conventions or host schools as assigned.Assists experienced sales consultants in contacting schools, booking fairs, making pre-fair calls, working with field reps, tracking numbers and goals for assigned territory, handling overflow calls for reorders, etc.Maintain business confidentiality relative to pricing, promotions, customer lists, and methods of distribution.Ability to get along with coworkers.Support our mission to encourage reading and promote lifelong learning, and demonstrate our values of caring and respect for all people.Cover open territory due to illness, vacation or dismissal.Our generous full time benefits include career opportunities, competitive salaries and comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, vision, prescription) as well as 401(k) and pension plans and a 50% employee discount!
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. BA/BS degree preferredMinimum 2 years sales or customer service experience.Basic math skills.Computer literate; LOTUS, Microsoft WordFamiliarization with children’s literature, Book Fairs, and school activities desired.Highly organized, self-starter, goal-oriented.Strong oral and written communication skills.Customer service oriented.Maintain professional appearance and demeanor.Calm under pressure with ability to adapt to change.Current and valid driver’s license with good driving record required. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.Ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs, push/pull cases up to 300lbs.
