PAYROLL TAX ADMINISTRATOR

Furniture Brands International, Inc. seeks a Payroll Tax Administrator to support the tax processing and reconciliation processes within the payroll operating group in our newly forming Shared Services function in the corporate offices located in Clayton, MO.  The tax administrator will report to the Payroll Manager and will be responsible for leading the tax compliance efforts for payroll as well as the accurate set-up and administration of payroll tax information for multiple EIN’s at the local, state, and federal level operations.

 

Responsibilities:

 Handle daily, monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax remittance and reporting in a multi-state,  multi-company payroll tax environment for 10,000+ employees.Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local payroll tax reporting requirements through the timely and accurate payment of all tax liabilities and submission of quarterly and annual tax returns.Ensure accuracy of quarterly and annual reconciliations, including amendments, for payroll tax returns prepared by tax service provider.Research laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures in a multi-state environment.Maintain accurate tax jurisdictions and rate tables in the payroll system.Research and resolve payroll tax issues including responses to tax inquiries from employees, auditors, and federal/state/local agencies.Assist in managing responsibilities of third-party payroll tax vendor and applicable interfaces.

· Assist in developing, implementing, and administering payroll tax policies and procedures in coordination with the organization’s overall direction. Serve as the liaison between payroll department, tax service vendor and internal treasury department.Support special projects, system and process testing, and other areas of the business as required.

Required Skills:

 

· 2+ years experience in complex, multi-state payrolls for a 5000+ employee corporation.Extensive knowledge of payroll, labor & tax regulations and practices for federal, state, & local taxes.Prior experience in the research, analyses, and resolution of payroll tax issues. Prior experience in the deployment and application of employment tax regulations.Ability to meet production requirements within expected time frames. Superior analytical skills, ability to multi-task and high attention to detail required.Strong commitment to customer service.

 

Desired Skills:

 

· Functional knowledge and experience working with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements for payroll practices.

· General knowledge of accounting principles.

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

· Hands on knowledge of PeopleSoft Payroll or comparable ERP skills.

· Prior experience with ADP tax service and interface modules.

 

Educational Requirements:

 

· Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field strongly preferred

· CPP preferred
