Production Director

What You Do: Assist in directing a dynamic publishing program that includes the creation of B&W and 2-color books, 4-color illustrated books, calendars, maps and kit projects. Participate in pre-press processes using current pre-press digital technologies. Source new suppliers, maintain relationships with existing suppliers and negotiate costs for services. Evaluate and critique vendor performance in terms of price, quality, service and volume loading. Contribute to annual budgeting process and advice on inventory control and supply chain issues. Engage in regular meetings with Editorial, Managing Editorial and Design departments to discuss formatting of titles, schedule and color prep. Provide approval for press and indicate freight and advance copy requirements on individual title orders being manufactured for a retail environment. Supervise a team of employees involved in the production process.What's Required: Bachelor's degree 7-10 + years of book production / manufacturing experience Current experience and a keen interest in pre-press digital technology book production Experience with DTP production technology, automatic PDF workflow solutions and the ability to implement workflow changes Above-average skills in Excel, Word and Preflight (or equivalent); Adobe suite, especially Acrobat is a plus
