Project Manager – New Product Development

 

I. Purpose of Position

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a cross-functional team of product engineering, technical marketing, and manufacturing personnel to develop new products for a rapidly expanding market.  In this position you will gain exposure to all phases of the product development process from concept to commercialization.  Specifically you will manage projects to design, develop, test, and launch novel products with distinct competitive advantage used in fuel vapor management systems, fuel pumping systems, and secondary fuel containment systems.

 

  II. Key Responsibilities

 

A. Act as the technical project manager with overall responsibility for the management, performance and completion of one major or several smaller projects.

B. Generate the project scope statement from the preliminary requirements document.

C. Use project deliverables to develop the work breakdown structure and network diagram that then drive the detailed activity/task list.

D. Responsible for obtaining accurate time and cost estimates, then managing the project to schedule and budget.

E.  Actively manage the project’s critical path.

F.  Continually monitor project health using tools such as FMEA and project risk assessments.  Recommend key experiments and/or use simulation and predictive tools to mitigate areas of high potential risk.

G. Use structured problem solving methodologies to identify root cause and effective corrective action. Offer conceptual solutions and work closely with the product development team to turn concepts into commercialized products.

H. Provide leadership to the project team and work with team members to achieve common objectives.

I.  Prepare and present project milestone documents to the Engineering Milestone Review Committee. Work with team members to ensure accurate completion of engineering, marketing, and factory documents.

J. Develop communication documents, presentations, and dashboards for communicating the project status and health to the leadership and marketing team.

K. Drive the creation of technical specifications, design specifications, and system validation plans to meet  project deliverables.

L.  Provide leadership in meeting the customer, safety, quality, manufacturing, cost, and regulatory requirements with designs that have sustainable differentiation in the marketplace.

 

III. Relationships

 

A. Report directly to the Product Development Manager of Pumping and Containment.

B. Works within a cross-functional team directly with the new product development team consisting of design engineers, designers, lab technicians, product managers, supply chain and logistic personnel, operations personnel, and test engineers.

C. Collaborate globally with other company divisions and open innovation partners to leverage their expertise and core competencies into new product platforms to achieve project deliverables.

 

IV. Measures of Performance

 

A. Product margin; as measured by the ability of the designed product to meet product cost targets.

B. Product quality; as measured by successful product verification and validation testing.

C. On-time performance; as measured by execution to the contract signed with management at tollgate 2.

D. Within budget; as measured by execution to the contract signed with management at tollgate 2.

  V. Background and Skill

 

A. 5-10 years experience in new product development

B. Proven track-record managing large, multidiscipline project schedules

C. BS in Mechanical Engineering

D. PMP or PMI certification

E.  Extensive knowledge in product design and verification techniques

F.  Ability to maneuver in CAD, Pro-Engineer preferred

G. Statistical and predictive experience with tools such as DOE, DFSS, FMEA

H. Basic knowledge of control systems, sensors and instrumentation
