Second Shift Supervisor

Department:  Fulfillment Center Operations

Reports To: Fulfillment Center Manager

 

SUMMARY

Assist the Fulfillment Center management staff in managing the daily operational flow of the Fulfillment Center to meet internal and external customer expectations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·  Lead and manage fulfillment operations, including receiving, inventory, pulling/packing, inspecting, shipping, and returns.

·  Maintain a high degree of quality management and continuous improvement in every facet of the fulfillment operation.

·  Train, develop, and evaluate subordinates as well as administer any necessary disciplinary/corrective actions.

·  Plan and conduct meetings as needed.

·  Create and submit reports.

·  Interface with other internal groups to understand and meet customer expectations, as well as to ensure compliance to all company rules, policies, and guidelines.

·  Assure the safety and security of personnel and inventory.

·  Assist and support the Fulfillment Center management staff.

·  Extensive knowledge and monitoring of WMS system and inventory control.

·  Ensure quality of inbound products, with the goal of less than 1% defects.

·  Ensure timely receipt and put-away of products.

·  Interface with other internal groups to meet and exceed client requirements, as well as to ensure compliance to all company rules, policies, and guidelines.

·  Work Saturdays and overtime on an as-needed basis.

·  Assist manager with inventory, quality, and efficiency reports and other feedback.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage subordinates in the Fulfillment Department.  This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees.  This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience; two to five years in a supervisory role; five years in warehousing or distribution operations; strong oral and written communications skills; good problem solving skills; good computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.  The ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multi-functional, multi-cultural environment is also a requirement.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  This position requires the ability to write routine reports and correspondence as well as the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  Bi-lingual Spanish preferred.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  This person must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  The ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations is required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk to and from warehouse and office sites.  The employee frequently is required to stand when giving instruction.  The employee is occasionally required to sit for meetings and desk work.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds to aid operations.  The employee must have good vision and hearing for verbal communication and forklift safety.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts (forklifts and packaging machinery).  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
