Senior Accountant Retail Finance

We’re a leading consumer-driven footwear company and wholesale supplier of women’s fashion shoes to U.S. department stores under brand names like Naturalizer, Via Spiga, Franco Sarto and LifeStride. We’re a marketer and supplier of brand-name, private label and licensed footwear to department stores, mass-merchandisers, and independent and specialty stores.Don’t you want to work for a great company? This position will work closely with internal and external auditors related to controls, processes and the financial position of Famous Footwear. Qualified candidates should have the skill set to perform complex research as it relates to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and be able to apply them to different scenarios as they arise through the operations of the business. This role also requires supervising to support the team during the month end process and to develop and grow accountants into future analysts. A Bachelors degree in accounting, as well as public and/or private accounting experience is preferred. Reviews and tests general ledger accounts to ensure there are no gaps or inconsistencies in the accounting treatment being applied and that all reconciliations are properly supported; alerts financial management of trends, concers and conclusions reached and imliments recommendations; Performs GAAP research and applies principles to scenarios as they arise through the operations of the business; Coordinates with corporate accounting and/or auditors to gain concurrence on positions taken; Acts as a change agent as it relates to processes and procedures where deficiencies are identifiedthrough research or account reconciliation review; Assists in the monthly review process and ensures accuracy of published financial data Assists in schedule preparation and review for internal and external auditors Supports organization needs for financial information, as requested Seeks and implements new automation opportunities and evaluates new and existing tools Fosters a team environment to develop individual and team skill sets through mentoring, constructive feedback, training, etc Benchmarks with peers, performs internet research, etc. to improve the efficiency or quality processes, reports and/or analysis; evaluates, implements and/or communicates such opportunities Anticipates the questions of financial management and drives solutions Works in conjunction with the FP&A department on the budget including providing reporting and analysis, as required. Completes other tasks and special projects as assigned under the direction of the Manager, Retail Finance.Position Specifications Educational Preference: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent level of experience Job Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years experience; public accounting a plus GAAP research/analysis experience as well as the use of research tools is helpful Retail Background helpful Strong Attention to detail Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to work cohesively in a team environment Solid time management and organization skills Strong customer service skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Computer Experience: Microsoft Office, ExCEL, and General Ledger Software (PeopleSoft preferred).
