Senior Marketing Manager
As an essential member of the marketing team, this senior management position is the primary owner of developing and executing critical customer acquisition marketing strategies across various vehicles for Staples Business Delivery (SBD). Leading a team of professionals, this position is accountable for driving new or reactivated customers for SBD and generating first order sales. Responsible for assisting in strategically allocating a multi million dollar budget across various sales channels (Telesales, Direct Mail, Email, Catalog, Alternative Media, Cross Channel, Awareness, Regional, Online, Affiliate, and Partnership Agreements) to optimize new customer Return on Investment (ROI).Responsible for strategizing, developing, and managing the implementation, testing and deployment of Catalog, Email, Direct Mail, Alternative Media, Cross Channel, Regional, and Partnership Agreements. While assuming full responsibility for management of all programs, this position also oversees the creation of the yearly marketing strategy, forecasting of monthly/yearly performance metrics, reporting and analysis of program effectiveness, and ownership/maintenance of the acquisition budget. Leads the development of testing new creative, offers, targeting and segmentation strategies across vehicles.Responsible for partnering closely with the circulation team to drive the successful execution of core programs and implement strategies to enter into new markets. Responsible for working closely with Corporate Marketing and Regional Marketing to leverage and integrate key corporate or business unit initiatives into assigned marketing programs.This position is also responsible for driving the marketing strategy for new and existing customers for Staples Industrial. Drive SBD's customer acquisition initiatives to produce profitable acquisition and lapsed customer re-activation campaigns utilizing various marketing vehicles. Ensure all acquisition strategies are executed properly, in a timely and cost-effective manner. Manage creative resources and direct the development, testing, and roll-out of new creative approaches, offer tactics, personalization, targeting, lists, and segmentation. Create strategies and identify opportunities to drive personalization and relevancy into core messages and campaigns, as well as drive penetration among key categories aimed at increasing Staples brand and ink/toner/paper penetration with new customers. Oversee acquisition budget for core programs to optimize new customer ROI Drive double digit customer acquisition growth, sizable revenue gains, and increased site penetration/share of wallet metrics. Ensure spending across all programs and materials comes in at or under budget. Search for, develop, and implement process improvements for savings and efficiencies across the department. Evaluate program effectiveness across all sources and measure new customer return on marketing investment. Oversee highly detailed results reporting and campaign analysis for acquisition strategies Ensure accurate and timely period reporting across channels and by source to insure maximum lifetime values are being achieved. Offer recommendations for enhancing program performance against strategic goals. Oversee occasional ad-hoc analysis projects. Coach, supervise, and mentor a professional staff Provide coaching, guidance and development opportunities for direct reports and core team. Establish departmental policies, objectives and priorities. Assign and oversee direct reports' duties and responsibilities, ensuring programs, strategies, processes and deliverables are in line with Staples' corporate goals and Team Care Values. Act as a mentor for junior associates within the SBD marketing team in order to provide Staples with talented, well trained, goal oriented professionals that will position Staples for future growth. Partner with Sr. Circulation Manager to drive new customer acquisition strategies Identify opportunities to develop in-depth understanding of customer segments through qualitative and quantitative research. Partner with the Circulation Manager to identify areas of opportunity to develop acquisition /reactivation response models geared toward increasing repurchase rates, acquisition rates and /or increasing share of wallet. Develop robust contact strategy tests including catalog circulation, telesales, email and direct mail to maximize the return on investment. Partner with Circulation Manager on new market entry circulation and overall marketing plans. Build and maintain organizational internal and external relationships Collaborate and build organization relationships with key functional areas including Merchandising, Corporate Marketing, Account Service, Finance, Production, Legal, Pricing, Call Centers, and external vendors to meet marketing program goals and deadlines and address customer issues. Leverage and integrate key corporate or business unit initiatives into assigned marketing programs. Act as SBD liason for new/refocused market launches, working with Corporate and Regional Marketing Teams to drive cross channel customers through all touch points. Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Marketing required Extensive Direct Marketing experience required; understanding of catalog, email, direct mail, telesales marketing, database marketing, circulation, strategy development, and standard industry practices. Experience in developing customer acquisition strategies and program deliverables.Management experience necessary to lead and motivate direct-report team and extended cross functional teams in implementation of marketing strategy. Ability to manage external vendors, articulating program goals, while trouble shooting problems and conflict resolution.Project oriented, pro-active, creative, and self-motivated work style with proven ability to supervise and manage effectively multiple projects and changing priorities in an extremely fast pasted environment and deliver results in given timeline.Ability to interact with and influence diverse groups of professionals at all levels of management; ability to lead cross functional team projects.Strong creative thinking and analytical skills with the ability to operate at both the strategic and tactical levels; ability/flexibility to adjust programs quickly in response to results.Experience having primarily responsibility for management of substantial marketing budget.Very strong written and verbal presentation skills.
