Solutions Architect - Systems Engineering

The Solutions Architecture team is a newly created team at Staples. The overall goal of the team would be to streamline and improve how we address all Development and Infrastructure projects by developing formal requirements gathering processes that ensure we have a detailed understanding of any medium to large projects prior to committing to either cost or schedule. Some examples exist below.Work with all appropriate IS/IT teams to scope and document all project requirements.Functional requirementsNon-functional requirementsQualified build specificationWork effort required (work packages)Hardware, software, and professional services costsOther responsibilities would include;Review new technologies which will reduce overall costs, create efficiencies or provide significant valueLook for cross platform tool consolidation opportunitiesInvestigate server consolidation/rationalization opportunitiesDevelop an IT technology roadmap and gain buy in from the IT and IS communitiesDevelop an End Of Life upgrade and replacement strategyWork collaboratively with all IT areas to identify, document and socialize IT standardsLook for automation opportunitiesApprove any new IT standardsReview solutions with the TSAG (Technology Strategy and Architecture Group) and Architecture Review BoardThe IT Solutions Architect would be responsible for representing all technology disciplines within IT, partnering with the appropriate IT areas as needed to involve subject matter experts where appropriate.They are also responsible for reviewing opportunities within IT, process or technology related, that would provide significant value to the organization and the customers we serve. Qualifications 10 years experience working in I.T. InfrastructureBA or equivalent preferredTechnically competent in a minimum of 3 of the following disciplines - Windows Server OS - Linux - AIX - Unix - iSeries - Cisco Networks and general networking concepts - SAN and centralized storage (EMC, HP or IBM) - Middleware (WAS or MQ) Apply
